Marlands residents woke to darkness on Wednesday as a power outage blackened the suburb.<\/p>\n
Many residents wanted answers as to what had caused the outage and when the power would be restored.<\/p>
Nathan Brink told the GCN: \u201cI have spoken to the metro and they told me that they cannot provide me with a reference number as the technician is fixing the problem.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey also said they cannot provide me with a turnaround time with regards to the problem or say what the cause is,\u201d he said.<\/p>
The GCN made several attempts to get answers from the metro and finally received comment from Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, days later.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a fault with the 33KV network between the Marlands and Germiston substations.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis caused the power outage that affected the Marlands area,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Power was restored to the area by Thursday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe metro always tries to return the power supply back to normal as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, turnaround time is dependent on the nature of the fault in the system,\u201d Gadebe said.<\/p>\n
