{"id":141124,"date":"2017-01-03T07:10:00","date_gmt":"2017-01-03T05:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/141124\/adjust-holiday-routine-a-week-before-school-term\/"},"modified":"2017-01-03T07:31:21","modified_gmt":"2017-01-03T05:31:21","slug":"adjust-holiday-routine-a-week-before-school-term","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2017\/01\/03\/adjust-holiday-routine-a-week-before-school-term\/","title":{"rendered":"Stick to a summer holiday routine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It seems the school holidays seem to take forever to &#8216;roll around&#8217;, yet when they do arrive they can often leave parents feeling overwhelmed and frantic to keep everyone happy.<\/p>\n<p>A summer holiday routine can be necessary for your sanity, making the transition back to school time a lot smoother in the long run.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>So, as the holidays are now in full swing, here are our top survival tips to prevent the holiday slump and make the back to school mornings a little easier:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Consistent eating habits:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sticking to the same meal times, not only reduces your family\u2019s chance of moodiness but also prevents unhealthy snacking between meals.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Make sure you make time for breakfast!<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a reason it&#8217;s known as the most important meal of the day.<\/p>\n<p>As well as improving concentration and endurance, it prevents irritability and lethargy, meaning your family will be ready and raring to go for holiday activities and family adventures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy ensuring your whole family makes time for breakfast, you&#8217;ll increase your daily intake of healthy vitamins and minerals like thiamine (or Vitamin B1), which increases your energy for the day,\u201d said Breakfasts for Better Days\u2122 dietician, Cheryl Meyer.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Minimum screen time:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy for children to get into the habit of wasting hours in front of the TV, with studies showing that on average, children spend 10-and-a-half hours in front of a device.<\/p>\n<p>Eliminate their need for TV time, by setting up cheap craft activities &#8211;
