scrubs to tiaras"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The semi-finalists in the 2017 Miss South Africa competition have been announced, and Bertha Gxowa Hospital\u2019s Jessica Tovey is excited to be one of them.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica (23), from Randpark Ridge, is a speech therapist and audiologist at the hospital and effortlessly switches from her hospital scrubs to high-fashion.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2016\/12\/DSC_0213-Custom.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-140956\" src=\"https:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2016\/12\/DSC_0213-Custom-398x400.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0213 her chosen career after an accident left her brother with both hearing loss and physical disabilities.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to do my part to change the perceptions towards those living with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a speech therapist and audiologist I interact with people living with disabilities every day and I see the way that not only they react to it but how those around them react to disability\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica believes that progressing through the stages and becoming Miss SA is not a means to an end but rather a journey to continuous positive change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMiss SA is the epitome of a woman of soulful beauty who will influence the people of SA wherever she goes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe that I am ready to take on that role and advance the Miss SA brand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would love to be an ambassador for not only our country but for the Germiston community and to take it to a global level,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>To help Jessica make it to the finals of the pageant SMS 08 to 45791.<\/p>\n<p>Each SMS costs
