If you’re throwing a party this festive season or attending someone else’s, online insurer dotsure.co.za has some useful advice for you and your host to make sure all the guests get home safely afterwards:

1. Encourage people to give lifts to fellow guests and elect a designated driver who promises not to drink alcohol.

2. Make sure there are plenty of non-alcoholic drinks available, as well as food.

3. Stop serving alcohol long before the party stops so guests have a chance to sober up.

4. Have cash available in case some guests need to take a taxi home.

5. Be prepared to offer guests a bed for the night if they have enjoyed one too many.

Aside from traditional taxis or Uber, there are a number of companies nationwide which drive people home in their own cars after a party including Road Trip, Scooter Angels, Drive Me Home, Nite Owls and Buddy’s.

As a responsible vehicle insurer which has client safety top of mind, dotsure.co.za offers clients a free designated driver service which ensures that both the client and his or her vehicle get home safely after a night out.

Some banks offer their clients a similar service so you should find out if yours does and if you qualify.

If you are hosting a party this festive season, there is one final thing to bear in mind: if one of your guests is involved in an accident or injures themselves after drinking at your party, you could be sued or held liable.

So it’s in your and your guests’ best interests to make sure everyone gets home safely.
