boosts local artists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Emerging artists from across Ekurhuleni stole the show at this year\u2019s Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards competition, taking a big slice of the total R160 000 in prize money.<\/p>\n<p>With over 300 artworks submitted for this year\u2019s competition, Mpho Makhubo from Tsakane came up tops pocketing the first prize of R60 000 for his work titled \u201cRoad Signs\u201d done using medium pastel and acrylic on paper.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Sandile Nzuza from Daveyton bagged the prestigious Ekurhuleni Prize for the work \u201cUntitled 2\/2\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Lizamore and Associates Mentorship Programme Winner award went to Alex Msibi from Germiston for the artwork titled \u201cDesiccated state of tranquility\u201d compiled using oil and canvas.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The elated Makhubo expressed his excitement and gratitude to the metro upon being announced the winner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very grateful for this recognition afforded to me by the City of Ekurhuleni, with this prize money I will be able to purchase proper art material and continue to up-skill myself and young upcoming artists from my township,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_134657\" artists for rising to the challenge and raising the bar for this year\u2019s competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the City of Ekurhuleni we thrive on these awards to put us on the map as the hub of grooming and appreciating creativity in fine arts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is very pleasing to see the competition getting recognition from artists from across the country every year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe competition
