The plight of patients suffering with Alzheimer\u2019s was highlighted at the Alzheimer\u2019s Awareness Campaign.<\/p>\n

The campaign, which took place on Friday, was organised and hosted by the Alzheimer\u2019s Association South Africa, Sasonah Lodge and the Elsburg Support Group and was held at the NG Kerk in Elsburg.<\/p>

Florence Matona from the Elsburg Support Group was one of the individuals involved in organising and hosting the Alzheimer\u2019s Awareness Campaign in Elsburg.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The event brought together representatives from several organisations including the Ekurhuleni Psychological Services, local homes for the elderly, home-based care centres, support groups and Sassa (South African Social Security Agency).<\/p>\n

The event offered the staff of these organisations a chance to learn more about the disease and share their insight and knowledge with one another.<\/p>

Debbie Beech from the Alzheimer\u2019s Association SA opened the event with a talk on the disease describing the symptoms and treatment needed to deal with patients suffering from Alzheimer\u2019s.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlzheimer\u2019s has always been sided-lined as an illness, this is still happening today,\u201d she said during her speech.<\/p>\n
