The EMPD, in its quest to greatly reduce the number of vehicles posing a danger to road users, re-visited Katlehong, Palm Ridge, Thokoza and Zonkizizwe on the hunt for unroadworthy vehicles, last Tuesday.<\/p>\n

During the special Bumper to Bumper operation 250 vehicles were stopped and checked and 81 were found unfit to be operated on public roads.<\/p>

The operation took place between 6am and 2pm and targeted Sontonga, Yende, K147\/M7, Khumalo, Hospital, Kgotso, Celtis and Mercury roads in Katlehong, Thokoza, Phola Park and Zonkizizwe.<\/p>\n

Sixty-three vehicles ended up in the EMPD pound in Alberton and 18 were discontinued and their licence discs confiscated and instructed to drive at the maximum speed of 30km\/h to places of repair.<\/p>

The impounded and discontinued vehicles included mini-bus taxis, LDVs, SUVs, four-ton trucks and private sedans.<\/p>\n
