A picture is worth a thousand words, or so the old saying goes.<\/p>\n
For decades photographs have been used by journalists, artists and the man on the street to capture moments otherwise lost in time, and can be used to tell a story in a way that words just cannot.<\/p>
A number of Caxton editors shared their thoughts of photos.<\/p>\n
\u201cCan you imagine reading a newspaper without any photographs?<\/p>
\u201cPhotographs taken by journalists often summarise what is written in an article and are of utmost importance and are often used to enhance a story.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is especially true for readers who don\u2019t have time to read the newspaper from back to front,\u201d said Thelma Koorts, editor of the Brakpan Herald.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy favourite thing about taking photos is that I can tell a story through my lens.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes all you need is a good photo and words become almost unnecessary,\u201d Melissa Hart, editor of the Germiston City News said.<\/p>\n
\u201cStrong photos draw readers to stories and make articles and publications come alive.<\/p>\n
\u201cCreative juices are let loose with a camera in hand,\u201d said Kevin van der List, editor of the Benoni City Times.<\/p>\n
At the annual Photo and Film Expo, which will be held at the Ticketpro Dome from October 27 to 30, photographers have the opportunity to travel back in time and take part in a workshop that will pay tribute to the original photographic processes.<\/p>\n
