{"id":132262,"date":"2016-09-05T11:50:00","date_gmt":"2016-09-05T09:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/132262\/celebrate-the-sweetest-day-of-the-year\/"},"modified":"2016-09-05T11:39:45","modified_gmt":"2016-09-05T09:39:45","slug":"celebrate-the-sweetest-day-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2016\/09\/05\/celebrate-the-sweetest-day-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrate the sweetest day of the year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.<\/p>\n<p>This year, National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer will be held on September 24, at 63 participating malls across the country.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Cupcakes of Hope is a non-profit company that aims to create awareness and raise funds for children with cancer through a love of baking cupcakes.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Cupcakes of Hope raised R1.5-million on National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>This money has helped more than 500 patients by paying for their medical or other day-to-day expenses.<\/p>\n<p>Cupcakes of Hope also spoils patients on their birthdays and organises special &#8221;end of treatment&#8221; surprises.<\/p>\n<p>Sandy Cipriano, founder of Cupcakes of Hope, said: \u201cIt is amazing to see how the whole community gets involved to help these brave little patients.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On September 24, members of the public can visit any participating mall where, for a R10 donation, they will receive a delicious cupcake that has been made with love.<\/p>\n<p>Although the main fund-raising event happens in September, Cupcakes of Hope holds awareness events throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>Schools, companies and individuals can also host their own Party of Hope, by registering online.<\/p>\n<p>Once registered, they will receive a free Angel Party Pack that includes awareness pamphlets, baking cups, badges, balloons and everything you need to prepare for your Party of Hope.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe invite young and old to become Cupcake Angels;
