{"id":130061,"date":"2016-08-08T16:32:15","date_gmt":"2016-08-08T14:32:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/130061\/pledge-for-parity-this-years-iwd-theme\/"},"modified":"2016-08-08T16:32:15","modified_gmt":"2016-08-08T14:32:15","slug":"pledge-for-parity-this-years-iwd-theme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/lifestyle-news\/entertainment-news\/2016\/08\/08\/pledge-for-parity-this-years-iwd-theme\/","title":{"rendered":"Pledge for Parity &#8211; this year&#8217;s IWD theme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The International Women&#8217;s Day (IWD) theme for 2016 is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internationalwomensday.com\/Theme\" target=\"_blank\">Pledge for Parity<\/a>.\u00a0Worldwide, women continue to contribute to social, economic, cultural and political achievement.\u00a0But progress towards gender parity has slowed in many places.<\/p>\n<p>The World Economic Forum (WEF) predicted in 2014 that it would take <a href=\"http:\/\/reports.weforum.org\/global-gender-gap-report-2014\/\" target=\"_blank\">until 2095 to achieve global gender parity<\/a>.\u00a0Then one year later in 2015, they estimated that a slowdown in the already glacial pace of progress meant the <a href=\"http:\/\/reports.weforum.org\/global-gender-gap-report-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\">gender gap wouldn&#8217;t close entirely until 2133<\/a>.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<h3>Pledge for Parity<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/08\/pledge-for-parity.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-116552\" src=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/08\/pledge-for-parity.png\" alt=\"pledge for parity\" width=\"750\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Everyone &#8211; men and women &#8211; can pledge to take a concrete step to help achieve <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internationalwomensday.com\/PledgeForParityCampaign\" target=\"_blank\">gender parity<\/a> more quickly &#8211; whether to help women and girls achieve their ambitions, call for gender-balanced leadership, respect and value difference, develop more inclusive and flexible cultures or root out workplace bias.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<h3>Commit to take action to accelerate gender parity<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/08\/money.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-116553 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/08\/money.jpg\" alt=\"[no title] 1985-90 Guerrilla Girls null Purchased 2003 http:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/art\/work\/P78814\" width=\"800\" height=\"620\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Globally, with individuals pledging to move from talk to purposeful action &#8211; and with men and women joining forces &#8211; we can collectively help women advance equal to their numbers and realise the limitless potential they offer economies the world over.<\/p>\n<div class=\"text-center\">\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Why is gender parity important?<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/08\/women-earn-more-than-men-at-these-jobs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-116557\" src=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/08\/women-earn-more-than-men-at-these-jobs.jpg\" alt=\"women-earn-more-than-men-at-these-jobs\" width=\"747\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Gender parity is linked to economic prosperity. It&#8217;s an economic imperative. Women\u2019s advancement and leadership are central to business performance and economic prosperity. Profitability, ROI and innovation all increase when women are counted among senior leadership.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Women in leadership<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Numerous global studies on the impact of women in leadership reveal the following findings:<br \/>\n&#8211; Women are the largest emerging market in the world<br \/>\n&#8211; More equality &gt; higher GDP<br \/>\n&#8211; More equality &gt; more productivity<br \/>\n&#8211; Better gender balance on boards &gt; better share price and financial performance<br \/>\n&#8211; More gender-balanced leadership &gt; better all-around performance<br \/>\n&#8211; More women political leaders &gt; more prosperity<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">What makes a difference?<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The report, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ey.com\/GL\/en\/Issues\/Business-environment\/ey-gender-parity-the-time-is-now\" target=\"_blank\">Women. Fast Forward: The time for gender parity is now<\/a>, offers some ideas on how to accelerate the 117-year projection. It features results from a survey of men and women leaders in 400 companies around the world to identify the biggest barriers and accelerators to women&#8217;s career advancement.
