To\u00a0confirm that your name is on the voters&#8217; roll and to find out which voting station you&#8217;re registered at, check your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elections.org.za\/content\/For-voters\/My-voter-registration-details\/\" target=\"_blank\">voter registration status<\/a>\u00a0online or SMS your ID number to\u00a032810. To locate your voting station on a map, check the IEC&#8217;s online <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.elections.org.za\/vsfinder\/\" target=\"_blank\">voting station finder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can vote if you have your valid, green, bar-coded ID; smartcard ID; or valid Temporary Identity Certificate (TIC)\u00a0and you are registered to vote.\u00a0When you register to vote, a\u00a0receipt is pasted\u00a0in your ID book.<\/li>\n<li>You must have turned 18 on or before the day of the elections.<\/li>\n<li>You must vote at the voting station at which you are registered to vote.<\/li>\n<li>If you qualify for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elections.org.za\/content\/Dynamic.aspx?id=1142&amp;name=For%20Voters&amp;LeftMenuId=95&amp;BreadCrumbId=214\" target=\"_blank\">special vote<\/a> and you have not arranged to vote, it is too late to do so now for the 2016 municipal elections.<\/li>\n<li>If you have not received your new ID book or have lost it,\u00a0you can vote if you have a Temporary Identity Certificate (TIC) that is\u00a0valid on Election Day. You can apply for a TIC at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.home-affairs.gov.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Home Affairs<\/a>. Remember, you will only be able to vote if you are a registered voter.<\/li>\n<li>If you have not registered over the registration weekends, you can\u00a0register during office hours at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elections.org.za\/content\/About-Us\/Contact-Us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Municipal Electoral Office<\/a> responsible for the voting district in which you live. Please see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elections.org.za\/content\/Dynamic.aspx?id=569&amp;name=For%20Voters&amp;LeftMenuId=95&amp;BreadCrumbId=214\" target=\"_blank\">How do I register?<\/a>\u00a0for details.<\/li>\n<li>You can&#8217;t vote with a\u00a0temporary registration certificate (TRC).<\/li>\n<li>You don&#8217;t need to re-register if your ID book is in your maiden name, but your married name appears on the voters&#8217; roll. Your ID number is used and\u00a0checked against the National Population Register (NPR). The Department of Home Affairs automatically changes your name when you get married, and that is the name that appears on the voters&#8217; roll.
