{"id":126630,"date":"2016-07-06T13:25:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-06T11:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/126630\/residents-will-be-paying-more-for-municipal-services\/"},"modified":"2016-07-06T13:37:12","modified_gmt":"2016-07-06T11:37:12","slug":"residents-will-be-paying-more-for-municipal-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2016\/07\/06\/residents-will-be-paying-more-for-municipal-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Residents will be paying more for municipal services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Municipal tariff increases came into effect on July 1, as this marked the beginning of the municipal financial year.<\/p>\n<p>Ekurhuleni\u2019s assessment rates have increased by 7.5 per cent, lower than the average rate increase of other metros of 8.1 per cent.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Based on Nersa\u2019s approval, the electricity tariff increase is between 7.64 per cent and 9.4 per cent, depending on the consumption level.<\/p>\n<p>Other increases are:<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Water tariff has increased by 9 per cent.<\/li>\n<li>Sanitation has increased by 9 per cent.<\/li>\n<li>Refuse removal has gone up by 8 per cent, for both business and residential.<\/li>\n<li>There is a zero per cent increase in cemetery fees for Ekurhuleni residents, but 10 per cent for non-residents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cHaving listened to our people\u2019s cries about the rate of night vigil tariffs for traditional churches and non-profit organisations, we have reduced the tariff from R900 to R450 per hour,\u201d said finance MMC Moses Makwakwa.<\/p>\n<p>There has been no increase for library and information services;
