Infrastructure fails in Elspark: http://bit.ly/1Xt5Jh4

Germiston residents are no longer surprised by power outages, as these seem to be a weekly, and in some areas of the city, daily occurrence. However, residents of Elspark now face a new hurdle as the area is plagued by water supply interruptions sometimes lasting for days. “In one week alone our water has been off three times on June 7, 8 and 9,” said Gail Rushmer. “Every day we either have a burst water pipe or are without electricity.” Many residents in the area believe the metro’s lack of maintenance has caused the infrastructure to fail in the area.

 • Michelle Stanley, “There should have been maintenance and plans put in place years ago. I have lived in Elspark for 13 years this coming December and we have always had water problems, maybe not as bad as the past three weeks, but yes, there have been problems for years.”

 • Pietro Cignoli, “The people keep voting.”

 • Darryl Linington, “What water tankers are they on about? The metro says they are on the way and they never arrive.”
