The EMPD High Speed Enforcement Unit conducted an operation between 7am and 8.30am, last Sunday, and arrested four drivers for excessive speeding.<\/p>\n
The operation took place on the N3 highway southbound near the Rand Airport exit.<\/p>
\u201cThe four arrestees included a male driver in a Mercedes Benz sedan found to be in a drunken stupor,\u201d said Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman for the EMPD.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe evidently drunk Mercedes Benz driver could hardly alight from his vehicle and found it difficult to string a coherent sentence together.<\/p>
\u201cHe claimed that he was on his way to confront his ex-husband with whom he had a serious bone to pick.\u201d<\/p>\n
This 35-year-old Mercedes driver was arrested after he was clocked at 165km\/h.<\/p>\n
He was charged with reckless and negligent driving, as well as driving while under the influence of intoxicating alcohol.<\/p>\n
Officers doubted the credence of his claims as he was highly intoxicated.<\/p>\n
The remainder of the arrestees were caught doing speeds of 167, 166 and 165km\/h.<\/p>\n
Charges of reckless and negligent driving were laid against them at the Germiston Police Station and they were later released on bail of R1 000 each.<\/p>\n
The drivers were all expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate\u2019s Court on May 23.<\/p>\n
