Many residents were left without power, yet again, on Thursday. The GCN contacted the metro to find out what had caused this outage and when power would be restored. “An equipment fault at the main Elsburg substation was the cause of the outage,” said metro spokesman Themba Gadebe.

 • Lucia Cowan, “We need to stand together on this issue. I had to buy a R5 500 generator just to ensure that my mom’s oxygen machine can continue to run during the sometimes 12-hour outages. Why must I drown in debt because of the metro’s negligence and incapability to secure the power cables?”

 • Elmarie Wood, “Why should we have to go without electricity that we have paid for?”

 • Monique Olivier, “Every week the electricity somewhere in Germiston is off for 24 hours plus, and every time a cable fault is blamed. How many times does a cable need to be replaced? I have never heard of a town in SA that has this amount of outages.”
