Another elderly resident of Delville has been murdered.<\/p>\n
The Germiston SAPS responded to a call at 6pm on Thursday, after residents became suspicious as they had not seen an elderly gentleman, aged 65, for two days.<\/p>
Upon their arrival at the scene, police officers forced their way into the Mons Road, Delville, home and found the body of the man.<\/p>\n
He had an open wound to his chest.<\/p>
\u201cThe post mortem will tell us his exact cause of death,\u201d said WO Andr\u00e9 de Jager, spokesman for the Germiston SAPS.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are investigating a case of murder, as well as a case of housebreaking.\u201d<\/p>\n
It appears that some items were taken from the house, but this will be confirmed by family members.<\/p>\n
Police are not yet sure of the man\u2019s exact time of death, as they received the call on Thursday and he hadn\u2019t been seen for two days prior to that.<\/p>\n
The suspect is unknown and no arrests have been made so far.<\/p>\n
This is the second murder of an elderly person in the suburb in a matter of a few weeks.<\/p>\n
Marie Sadler (72) was murdered in her family\u2019s Delville home on March 24 (GCN, April 8).<\/p>\n
De Jager told the GCN that the Germiston SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit is embarking on a project to create a database of all elderly residents in the Delville area.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to establish where all the elderly residents live and go and visit them at their homes in order to educate them regarding safety,\u201d de Jager said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also plan to set up a Domestic Workers Forum along the same lines, to educate domestic workers in our policing area about safety.<\/p>\n
Elderly residents of Delville are urged to contact either Const Queen Sibeko or de Jager on 082 457 0636, in order for the police to set up a time to visit them.<\/p>\n
