{"id":119078,"date":"2016-04-22T08:21:00","date_gmt":"2016-04-22T06:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/119078\/trenches-still-lying-open\/"},"modified":"2016-04-22T15:25:06","modified_gmt":"2016-04-22T13:25:06","slug":"trenches-still-lying-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2016\/04\/22\/trenches-still-lying-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Trenches still lying open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cIt seems our complaints have fallen on deaf ears,\u201d said Elsburg resident William Fletcher.<\/p>\n<p>His words come after the metro failed to address the state of the pavements in Brug Street, in Elsburg.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/114572\/when-will-metro-repair-brug-street\/\" target=\"_blank\">GCN previously reported<\/a> (GCN, March 11) on the poor state of the pavements, with a number of residents and a local store owner having reported the matter to the metro, with no results.<\/p>\n<p>Children from Laerskool Elsburg and Ho\u00ebrskool Elsburg, as well as pedestrians in the area, cannot walk on the pavements and are instead forced to walk in the busy streets.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Since the matter was last reported to the GCN, Fletcher said that trenches which cross several streets, including Dollie, Van Riebeek and Brug streets, are getting deeper and deeper<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know some vehicles have been damaged by the trenches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vehicle\u2019s owners are currently getting legal advice on how to claim from the metro,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The trenches were dug over five months ago, but it has not been confirmed why this was done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is absolutely disgusting.
