Ari J\u00f3nsson, a product design student who studies at the Icelandic Academy of Arts, came up with a way to create a completely biodegradable water bottle using red algae powder.<\/p>\n<p>Ari J\u00f3nsson exhibited his biodegradable bottle at a design festival in\u00a0Reykjavik recently.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/04\/water-bottles-emgn-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-103940\" src=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/04\/water-bottles-emgn-2-520x400.jpg\" alt=\"water-bottles-emgn-2\" width=\"520\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After reading about the amount of plastic humans waste every day Ari decided to do something about it.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/04\/water-bottles-emgn-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-103941\" src=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/04\/water-bottles-emgn-3-520x400.jpg\" alt=\"water-bottles-emgn-3\" width=\"520\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI read that 50 per cent of plastic is used once and then thrown away so I feel there is an urgent need to find ways to replace some of the unreal amount of plastic we make.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/04\/water-bottles-emgn-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-103942\" src=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/04\/water-bottles-emgn-4-520x400.jpg\" alt=\"water-bottles-emgn-4\" width=\"520\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then Ari asked the million dollar question: \u201cWhy are we using materials that take hundreds of years to break down in nature to drink from once and then throw away?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/04\/water-bottles-emgn-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-103943\" src=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/04\/water-bottles-emgn-5-520x400.jpg\" alt=\"water-bottles-emgn-5\" width=\"520\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To show that he means business, he started studying the strengths and weaknesses of certain substances, eventually coming up with a solution to our plastic problem &#8211;
