It is a member of a large group of spirits in which anise is the dominant flavor. Pastis is the direct descendant of the infamous absinthe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Absinthe<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the height of absinthe\u2019s popularity through to its eventual banishment, the drink was considered both a miracle tonic and a criminal scourge, depending on your perspective. While little of the alleged psychoactive or hallucinatory aspects of absinthe have been explained by science, what we do know is that the drink touched the lives and influenced the work of many an artist, writer, and intellectual. Absinthe aficionados whose life and work were inspired to take up pen or paintbrush thanks to The Green Lady were\u00a0Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890),\u00a0Oscar Wilde (1854 \u2013 1900),\u00a0Charles Baudelaire (1821 \u2013 1867),\u00a0Guy de Maupassant (1850 \u2013 1893) and\u00a0Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/04\/e4cb47bf46dce2521e56f2134ea3c43c.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-103085\" src=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/04\/e4cb47bf46dce2521e56f2134ea3c43c-520x400.jpg\" alt=\"e4cb47bf46dce2521e56f2134ea3c43c\" width=\"520\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pernod <\/strong>is an anise-based liquor made in France.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sambuca\u00a0<\/strong>is an Italian liqueur produced by the infusion of Witch Elder (Elderberry) bush and sweet anise. A very 70s liqueur, served at the end of an Italian meal with a coffee bean and set alight at the table. It consists of a complex blend of herbs, fruits and spices. J\u00e4germeister translates to &#8220;hunt master&#8221;.
