As the tradition grew, it lost some of its religious significance and became more about a show of prosperity and frivolity.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/03\/b97040ed06f4eee52225d32663002daf.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-100765\" src=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/03\/b97040ed06f4eee52225d32663002daf-520x400.jpg\" alt=\"b97040ed06f4eee52225d32663002daf\" width=\"520\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>The 1948 film Easter Parade with Judy Garland and Fred Astaire, and the music of Irving Berlin really immortalised the practice of wearing Easter Bonnets, with the popular song Easter Parade\u00a0which was originally written in 1933 and became one of the most popular songs about Easter.<\/p>\n<div class='tie-fluid-width-video-wrapper tie-ignore-fitvid' style='margin-bottom: 30px;'>\n\t\t\t<iframe style='width: 100%; min-height: 300px; aspect-ratio: 16\/9;' src='https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/uL2SebPfBew' loading='lazy'><\/iframe>\n\t\t<\/div>\n<p>These days the New York parade is a much smaller affair with about 30,000 people showing up each year to flaunt their hats.
