community work together to track down teenage rape suspect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An 18-year-old suspect has been nabbed by police for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged rape took place on February 19 in Rose-Innes Street, Driehoek.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Germiston SAPS cluster commander Brig Phumla Mdlankomo praised all the role players, including members of the community, who played a vital role in tracing the young man which enabled the arrest to take place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe complainant alleged that she saw \u2018love bites\u2019 on the neck of her daughter and confronted her about them.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe young girl disclosed to her mother that she had been coming back from the gym with her brother and the suspect and they took a walk to a nearby shop where they bought liquor,\u201d said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Germiston SAPS cluster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey went back to their home and started drinking and the girl\u2019s brother passed out and the suspect took advantage of this and raped the victim.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The complainant took her daughter to the Primrose SAPS where a formal case docket was opened for investigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithin an hour the information was on WhatsApp and Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspect realised that he was wanted and he started to play a hide-and-seek game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn anonymous caller gave the Elsburg police a tip-off and the suspect was arrested and detained at the Germiston Police Station on February 22,\u201d Maome said.<\/p>\n<p>Mdlankomo encourages the community to work hand-in-hand with the police to fight crime in the cluster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking together will make our cluster a safe place to be,\u201d
