Anneline Kriel became Miss World in 1974 and Margaret Gardiner won the Miss Universe title in 1978. She now lives in Mauritius.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/02\/39c2e9ea308a4eaaacab25f10c09eccf.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-94757\" src=\"https:\/\/albertonrecord.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2016\/02\/39c2e9ea308a4eaaacab25f10c09eccf-520x400.jpg\" alt=\"39c2e9ea308a4eaaacab25f10c09eccf\" width=\"520\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Margaret Gardiner was the first African woman to win the Miss Universe title. She was 18 years old when she won.
