Set your alarm or use an anti-theft device.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 If you must shop at night, park in a well-lit area.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>\u2022 Avoid parking next to vans, trucks with camper shells or cars with tinted windows.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Park as close as you can to your destination and remember where you parked.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Never leave your car unoccupied with the engine running or with children inside it.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Do not leave packages or valuables on the seat of your car. This is a big temptation for thieves. If you must leave something in the car, lock it in the trunk or put it out of sight.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Be sure to locate your keys before going to your car.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Keep a secure hold on your purse, handbag and parcels. Do not put them down or on top of the car in order to open the door.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 When approaching or leaving your vehicle, be aware of your surroundings.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Do not approach your car alone if there are suspicious people in the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ask the mall or shop security for an escort before leaving your shopping location.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Automated Teller Machine (ATM):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 If you must use an ATM, choose one that is located inside a police station, mall or well-lit location. Withdraw only the amount of cash that you need.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Protect your PIN by shielding the ATM keypad from anyone who is standing near you.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Do not throw your ATM receipt away at the ATM location.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shopping:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Shop during daylight hours if it is possible. If you must shop at night, ensure that a friend or family member accompanies you.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Avoid wearing expensive jewellery.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Do not carry a purse or wallet, if possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Always carry your driver\u2019s licence or identification card along with the necessary cash, cheques and\/or a credit card at all times.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Even though you are in a rush and thinking about a thousand things, be aware of your surroundings.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Pay for purchases with a cheque or credit card, if it is possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Keep cash in your front pocket.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Notify the credit card issuer immediately if your credit card is lost, stolen or misused.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Keep a record of all of your credit card numbers in a safe place at home.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Be extra careful if you carry a wallet or purse.
