{"id":107329,"date":"2015-12-05T07:00:29","date_gmt":"2015-12-05T05:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/?p=107329"},"modified":"2015-12-05T07:00:29","modified_gmt":"2015-12-05T05:00:29","slug":"remembering-nelson-mandela-december-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2015\/12\/05\/remembering-nelson-mandela-december-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Remembering Nelson Mandela (December 5)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a long illness, Nelson Mandela, South Africa\u2019s first black president, died at age 95 on December\u00a0 5, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>This day will always serve as a reminder of the moment the world bid farewell to Tata Nelson Mandela.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>To celebrate the life of Madiba and acknowledge the substantial contribution he has made to our lives, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/nelsonmandela\/?fref=ts\" target=\"_blank\">Nelson Mandela Foundation<\/a> has planned a series of events to reflect on his passing and our gift of freedom.<\/p>\n<div class='tie-fluid-width-video-wrapper tie-ignore-fitvid' style='margin-bottom: 30px;'>\n\t\t\t<iframe style='width: 100%; min-height: 300px; aspect-ratio: 16\/9;' src='https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/jgQBoXsxr8w' loading='lazy'><\/iframe>\n\t\t<\/div>\n<p>The Foundation will mark this period of remembrance by hosting a few events this month:<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>On \u00a0December 5 they are partnering with the Market Theatre to host an artist tribute called \u201cLetters from Mandela\u201d with music, dance and recitals from Madiba\u2019s letters.<\/li>\n<li>It will hone in on interesting relationships he had with different people that are recorded in the form of letters in the Foundation\u2019s archives.<\/li>\n<li>Letters from Mandela aims to find some of the warmest moments of Mandela: the man, the father, the son, the comrade and the son of the African soil.<\/li>\n<li>James Ngcobo is the artistic director of the production.<\/li>\n<li>On December 12 we\u2019ve partnered with the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation in the Gauteng Province to co-host the second Nelson Mandela Remembrance Walk in Pretoria. The walk covers the route from 1 Military Hospital to the Union Buildings, which is now part of the City of Tshwane\u2019s Heritage Route.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, on \u00a0December 15 they are hosting another dialogue titled \u201cImagining Futures\u201d. Panelists include:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Boitumelo &#8220;Tumi&#8221; Molekane, rapper and poet,;<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Trudi Makhaya, Rhodes Scholar and business woman; and<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Nompendulo Mkhatshwa, student leader,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese events are part celebration as we look back and give thanks but, importantly, they look ahead to what needs to be achieved.
