Traffic on the East Rand was severely affected this morning after a taxi accident in Kempton Park.<\/p>\n
Thirteen people were left injured, two of them critically, after the taxi rolled on the R21 southbound in Kempton Park.<\/p>
\u201cER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene to find the taxi lying in the fast lane of the highway.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was apparent to emergency workers that the vehicle had rolled multiple times,\u201d said Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesman.<\/p>
\u201cOn assessment, paramedics found that two woman had sustained critical injuries while 11 others had sustained only minor to moderate injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n
Paramedics began their treatment and provided the two critically injured patients with advanced life support interventions.<\/p>\n
Once treated, one of the critically injured patients was airlifted by a medical helicopter to a nearby hospital while the second patient was transported by ambulance.<\/p>\n
The remaining patients were treated for their injuries and transported to various hospitals for further assessment.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations,\u201d said Meiring.<\/p>\n
