our little boy reacted to sound.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These were the emotional words of Nicoleen van der Merwe, whose 14-month-old son, <a href=\"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/97483\/help-jordan-hear\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jordan<\/a>, had his first cochlear implant <a href=\"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/101837\/jordan-gets-his-first-cochlear-implant\/\" target=\"_blank\">(fitted on September 29)<\/a> switched on.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Mom Nicoleen and dad Dwyne struggled to find the words to describe how they felt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt Jordan\u2019s breathing increase, I felt him look up and then he reacted to sound for the first time in his life,\u201d said Nicoleen.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"HelpJordanHear\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IJz5QZnsa6I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Though Jordan can now hear sounds because his implant sends electronic impulses to his brain, he does not know that these impulses are sound and will now begin learning how to interpret them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are just over-the-moon that he is able to hear,&#8221;
