{"id":103376,"date":"2015-10-29T13:10:00","date_gmt":"2015-10-29T11:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/germistoncitynews.co.za\/103376\/do-you-bit-and-save-water-to-help-prevent-a-water-shortage\/"},"modified":"2015-10-29T13:38:02","modified_gmt":"2015-10-29T11:38:02","slug":"do-you-bit-and-save-water-to-help-prevent-a-water-shortage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/develop.citizen.co.za\/germiston-city-news\/news-headlines\/2015\/10\/29\/do-you-bit-and-save-water-to-help-prevent-a-water-shortage\/","title":{"rendered":"Do your bit and save water to help prevent a water shortage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Persistent high temperatures in Rand Water\u2019s areas of supply, including Ekurhuleni, have been putting a strain on the water supply system.<\/p>\n<p>The lack of rainfall has further worsened the situation.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Rand Water said that the high water demand is projected to cause localised problems, such as low water pressure and water shortages, in some parts of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni.<\/p>\n<p>It is important to note that Rand Water\u2019s bulk supply system is concerning, yet stable.<\/p><div class=\"stream-item stream-item-in-post stream-item-inline-post aligncenter\"><\/div>\n<p>Rand Water and the top five municipalities are in discussions to jointly manage the situation.<\/p>\n<p>Rand Water urges all residents to use water sparingly and asks the community for support in encouraging your families and friends to do the same.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are some Water Wise tips for Rand Water:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Only use what you need. Don\u2019t waste water.<\/li>\n<li>Toilets are one of the biggest water users. Remember: \u201cIf it\u2019s yellow, let it mellow. If it\u2019s brown, flush it down.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Turn off urinals that run continuously, especially after hours.<\/li>\n<li>Take short showers (less than five minutes).<\/li>\n<li>Take shallow baths (less than 20cm).<\/li>\n<li>Check for water leaks and fix them immediately.<\/li>\n<li>Turn off the tap whilst brushing your teeth or shaving.<\/li>\n<li>Try to not water your garden.
