Dis-Chem Ride for Sight Cycle Race to hit the streets

Cyclists prepare for a cycle race event to aid the fight against blindness.

An informed resident of a suburb which is part of the route of a race is a happy resident, as they can make alternate plans and use different routes to get to church and the shops.

See below for roads that will be used by the cyclists and official vehicles on February 14, during the Dis-Chem Ride for Sight Cycle Race.

Cyclists will converge on the Boksburg City Stadium, at the corner of Jubilee and Dudley Smith roads, from 4.30am onwards.

The first race starts at 6.15am and the last race at 8.18am.

The last group of cyclists will arrive back at the stadium by 2.30pm.

The following roads will be affected:

Although online entries are closed, registration will also be taken at the following venues:

Limited entries will be taken on race day for the 116km (no seeding).

Entries will also be taken on race day for the 62km event.

This, the 28th Ride for Sight event, remains a seeding event for the Cape Town Cycle Tour.

Cash prizes valued at R82 000 will be awarded in CSA Cycling categories.

Lucky draw and donation prizes worth over R200 000 will also be up for grabs.

The Dis-Chem Foundation will again match all these lucky draw donations, over and above event entry fees.

All the proceeds will fund genetic tests for financially disadvantaged children.

To support the fight against blindness, Vision Works Optometrists will offer free vison screening during the month of February.

Vision Works will also offer free vision screening on race day, at the race venue, in partnership with the metro.

As in previous years, Dis-Chem Pharmacies are the naming sponsor, with the Ekurhuleni Metro, Springs Wheelers, Hamnet Emergency Communications and Benoni Red Cross partnering with Retina South Africa to provide the cyclists with the best emergency and on route support, to ensure that they have a safe and enjoyable ride.
