With the upcoming general elections fast approaching, the GCN hit the streets to find out if locals were registered and ready to head to the polls.
General elections 2019.
Gert Engelbrecht: “I missed the final registration weekend. I am already registered in another province but because I now live this side I wanted to register and vote in Germiston.”
Louw Mare: “No. I’ve never voted before and I did not register to vote this year. There is no one to vote for. None of the parties is for me.”
Abraham Mduya: “No. I am not registered to vote and will not be participating in the elections. See, I am not a South African citizen. I am originally from Zimbabwe.”
Freedom Munyai: “I am registered to vote in Venda. During the final registration weekend I was still in Venda so I could not register using my current address this side.”
Mamello Motosola: “I would have loved to vote in the upcoming elections but I missed the final registration weekend. I found out about it on the last day.”
Dumisani Mnguni: “Politics is a big game of manipulation. We rush to the polls to cast our votes, and in three months the winning party we’ve voted for forgets about us.”
