Learners from Primrose high schools tell the GCN their opinion on how bullying in schools should be tackled.
Tackling bullying in schools.
Lyle Simons: “Bullies must be taken to prison for a day so they can be bullied too, then they should apologise to all their victims when they come back to school.”
Bathandwa Dwera: “To better deal with bullying there should be an open dialogue between learners and teachers. This will make teachers and principals aware of what is happening in their schools.”
Petra Munwana: “Bullying affects a lot of children. You see a decline in their school work and they become less interactive. Bullies need to be suspended as soon as they are identified.”
Lucas St John: “Bullying needs to be dealt with delicately because learners aren’t bullied when authorities are around so the victims need protection. Procedures to follow: detention, suspension and then expulsion.”
Innocentia Mpahlele: “For those being bullied at school and outside the school I would advise that they speak to someone they trust like a friend, a teacher or a school counsellor.”
Gosiame Seeco: “Bullies feed off their victims, so when they have not been caught or reported it only makes them feel notorious. Teachers should be notified immediately once a bully is identified.”
