Word from our readers regarding the HVTN 702 vaccine clinical trial
How do you feel about the possibility of HIV being prevented in the future?
Patrick Swanepoel, “Despite the solution, I think it is bound to lead to other problems or would follow with the breakout of another disease. It’s just worked like that throughout history. Essentially abstinence is the best prevention.”
Simone Jackson, “Anything that could possibly prevent Aids would be great. However I still think a lot more awareness should be created on the matter, especially in rural areas. Being educated on a matter as critical is the best prevention.”
Nhlanhla Ndlovu, “I don’t think it would necessarily be a good thing if HIV could be prevented. As terrible as it is, it also controls the population. People may take advantage of the solution and be more reckless with their sexual activities.”
Edwin van Heerden, “I heard that the vaccine is a five-year process, so I don’t think we will know whether it actually works any time soon. I think it’s just a publicity stunt that they are telling us about the vaccine today on World Aids Day.”
Nicholas Kromker, “HIV and Aids is a worldwide problem, so if it can be fixed, go for it!”
Regina Mamaila, “It would be wonderful. Obviously we want a cure for HIV and Aids and hope to put an end to it. I do not wish it on anyone to become ill and die, especially children or people who have small children who are then left behind.”
