Why childbirth education classes are important

Pregnancy Education Week helps parents to make informed choices about childbirth.

The theme of this year’s Pregnancy Education Week (February 13 to 21) is ‘Date and way of birth – what would baby choose?’

The theme highlights how childbirth education enables you to make informed choices about what’s best for you and your baby.

During Pregnancy Education Week, childbirth educators, Bio-Oil and hospitals around the country are teaming up to offer various talks and pregnancy-related activities.

“Childbirth education makes a visible difference,” said Germiston-based Lynne Bluff, the national coordinator for the Childbirth Educators Professional Forum.

“You can tell during the birth whether or not parents have been to classes.

“They are more knowledgeable, less anxious and more relaxed.”

Six good reasons to attend childbirth education classes:

“We strongly recommend childbirth education,” said Lauren Macnab of Bio-Oil, the official partner for Pregnancy Education Week.

“It allows parents to make informed choices and gives expectant parents invaluable confidence and reassurance.”
