Germiston was just one of many cities to feel an earth tremor this afternoon.
While no confirmed information is available at present as to the magnitude of the tremor and what caused it, the GCN has requested Michelle Grobbelaar, head of the seismology unit at the Council of Geoscience to give us details as soon as she can.
According to the USGS National Earthquake Information Centre located in the USA, the tremor had a 5.3 magnitude and the epicentre was 6km East of Orkney.
It appears to have been felt countrywide.
