The GCN received a number of calls on Monday (July 28) from disgruntled residents who explained that they had been without power for hours.
The GCN contacted the metro in an attempt to find out what was going on.
Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe of the metro’s department of communications and brand management released the following statement:
“Please note that Eskom lost one of their two transformers at our main substation and we experienced an overload on our network.
“It happened last week and again this week.
“Eskom is currently working on the problem.”
