St Catherine’s School recently celebrated Ash Wednesday.
The ashes for Ash Wednesday are made from blessed palm branches from the previous Palm Sunday.
The ashes are then sprinkled with Holy Water and incensed before distribution.
The ashes are then applied to the foreheads of the students, teachers and other staff members in the shape of a cross, this act symbolises mortality as well as the need for continuous repentance.
